VHS. Film footage of President Harry S. Truman’s talk in Dexter, Iowa on September 18, 1948, and commentary by Cary J. Hahn, “The Iowa Traveler” of KGAN-TV in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Mr. Hahn presented the (originally 8mm) home movie which came from Herb Plambeck, who had invited President Truman to the plowing match in Dexter and conducted an interview with him. Also included is black and white footage of former President Truman’s speech at the dedication of the Herbert Hoover Library on August 10, 1962. Mr. Hahn also shows an old interview he did with Herb Plambeck (who died in 2001). This videotape was prepared around 2002. The footage of Dexter, Iowa is color and of good quality.

This home movie is from Herb Plambeck, who invited President Truman to speak at the plowing match in Dexter. The movie is silent. There is also black and white sound footage of former President Truman’s speech at the dedication of the Herbert Hoover Library in West Branch, Iowa on August 10, 1962. The video of the home movie was donated by Cary Hahn of KGAN-TV inCedar Rapids, Iowa (see VT2013-4).

This dvd was created for the Old Independence Regional Museum, illustrating President Truman’s visit to Batesville while he was on his way to dedicate the Norfolk and Bull Shoals Dam in July, 1952. They used photographs from the Truman Library collection. Donor: Twyla Gill Wright, Curator of Collections. 2 dvds. Length: 10 min. Jacobson; Professor Douglas Stuart; and Dr. Michael Devine, Director of the Harry S. Truman Library. Other attendees included Ken Hechler and Clifton Truman Daniel.

March, 1971 "Mr. President," an obituary of Harry S. Truman by Metropolitan Broadcasting Television, a division of Metromedia (KMBC, Channel 9). Narrator is Claude Dorsey. Producer, writer, and donor is Jerry Plantz. A script for the program is filed in the videotape folder. The video footage includes film footage of President Harry S. Truman, audio of his voice, and post presidential television footage. People in the video include bodyguard Mike Westwood, Hubert Humphrey, President Lyndon B. Johnson, President Richard Nixon, Charles Murphy, First Lady Lady Bird Johnson, First Lady Pat Nixon, and Bess Truman. There is footage of a Salvation Army presentation at the Truman home, and unique footage of 30 4-H children singing Christmas carols in front of the Truman home, with the former President coming out the door to accept a Christmas present from them. 2 ¾-inch videotapes (originals); Betacam SP; and DVD.
