Riehle, President, The Economic Club of New York (Mr. Riehle wrote Mr. Connelly in January asking if he might call on the President and pay his and the respects of the 1100 members of the Economic Club of New York; also to extend an invitation to him in person to use the platform of the Club at any time he might desire to do so. The Club "is a non-partisan and patriotic organization, now in its 40th year, and its role in the intellectual life of New York's metropolitan area is outstanding. The Secretary of War [Robert P. Patterson] General John Hodge (Secretary Robert P. Patterson asked the President to talk to General Hodge, just returned from Korea, and is in the War Department for a few weeks to confer with State Department on our future policy in refer- ence to Korea. First time General Hodge has been in the United States for over five years. Has brilliant fighting record in Pacific, first in command of the American Division in the Solomons and later in command of the 24th Corps in Philippines and Okinawa. Went to Korea immediately after the Japanese surrender and has been there constantly ever since.)
