They wrote for it on October 1st, stating that since announcement of the President's letter to Prime Minister Attlee on Palestine situation, there had been numerous and serious repercussions - many members of the American Council for Judaism are greatly alarmed by what they believe the consequences of your statement may be as it affects those Jews dwelling in Palestine today, * * * * "the American Council for Judaism are unalterably opposed to the establishment of an independent national Jewish State in Palestine or elsewhere.")

Mr. E. P. J. Shurick Mr. Arthur B. Church (They called to present to the President, initial copy of the book, "The First Quarter-Century of American Broadcasting", of which Shurick is author and Mr. Church is the publisher. This book, the first effort of its kind to detail legitimate history of broad- casting industry, is being accepted as a text book in many educational institutions; also is being used in industry itself as an authentic record of its first twenty-five years. General Smuts (Field Marshal) arrived at the White House
Small stag Dinner for General Smuts, Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa (General Smuts was overnight guest at the White House) (Field Marshal Jan Christian Smuts, Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa, was originally invited to the White House by President Roosevelt and then the invitation was renewed by President Truman at San Francisco. This is why he stayed at the White House. He is really not a head of State and would not automatically rate it.)

Patterson and wanted a visit with the President before going abroad.)

General Miltonberger will present to the President the first automobile Reunion advertising sticker.)

The President received the Members of the East Asia Fellowship Team, as follows: Dr. Josefa Llano, a physician with a long-established practice in Manila, P.I. Miss Hsiang Foh-Mei, dean of the School of the Pure Heart, Shanghai, China Reverend Tamaki Uemura, a pastor of Tokyo Congregation, Church of Christ in Japan The following persons accompanied the Team but are not members: Mrs. Archibald Smith Mrs. Wilbur La Roe, Jr. Mrs. Irving Ketchum Mrs. H.H. Bousman (This team is in this country, under direction of the Board of Foreign Missions of the Presbyterian Church in U.S.A. The request for an appointment came to us through Mr. Wilbur La Roe of this city, who has received it from the Board of Foreign Missions. It was Dean Acheson's opinion that if the President's schedule permitted, it might be a gracious gesture of good will toward the peoples of the Orient if he could see these three persons traveling under the auspices of the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions. The object of their visit is "Traveling in Testimony of our Fellowship with the Churches of East Asia.")
