United States Sailors Assist Grounded Sailors from HMTS Prasae

Two unidentified United States sailors unwrap blankets brought to stranded sailors from Thailand. In the background, their ship, the HMTS Prasae can be seen where she grounded on the Korean coast during a blizzard. The Prasae was part of a United Nations operation when she ran aground. Gunfire from the USS Manchester protected the stranded sailors and rescuers from enemy troops.

Sailors Stand Guard During Rescue

Three unidentified Thai crewmen of the ship HMTS Prasae stand guard during rescue operations. The Prasae, part of a United Nations operation, went aground on a Korean beach during a blizzard. Rescue operations were conducted by the USS Manchester using a helicopter borrowed from the USS Philippine Sea after the Manchester's helicopter crashed.

Helicopter Rescues Stranded Sailors from HMTS Prasae

A helicopter from the USS Philippine Sea, piloted by Chief Aviation Pilot D. W. Thorin, lands on the snowy beach to effect rescue of the crew of the Thailand ship HMTS Prasae. The Prasae, which was part of a United Nations operation, grounded during a snow storm. The rescue team was surrounded by enemy troops during the operation but was protected by gunfire from the USS Manchester.
