External, distance view believed to have been taken while W. Averell Harriman was visiting Rudni, Kazakhstan during the latter part of his Soviet Union trip. Charles W. Thayer accompanied W. Averell Harriman as a guide and confidant on the trip which took place May 12 - June 26, 1959. Harriman went as a special foreign correspondent for the North American Newspaper Alliance (NANA). Trip visits included Moscow, Leningrad, Kiev, Yalta, etc., as well as areas in Siberia and the Urals, and ended with a meeting with Nikita Khrushchev. Original 35mm negative.

Irish Country Scene

Exterior view believed to have been taken in Ireland. Charles W. Thayer describes in his diary as: "'Inver' Maam Cross, County Galway..." (Ireland) He further states: "The place is on a small island in a little lake 35 or more miles from the railhead at Galway, no telephone or electric light, and the most attractive place you can imagine."
