Housing Expediter Tighe E. Woods asked for a two-year extension of rent control because of a continued critical shortage of rental housing. Woods, shown before the House Banking Committee, said that removal of rent ceilings now on the estimated 4,350,000 under control would be a serious blow to our economy. From: Beth Gore.

Housing Expediter Tighe E. Woods said today he thought very little material is being saved for housing by restrictions in the present housing act on non-essential business construction. Thomas B. McCabe told the Senate Banking Committee that although "there doubtless have been mistakes" he thought his war surplus property disposal agency did the best possible job.
