Description

This recording is a compilation of three items related to Dr. Henry G. Bennett, president of Oklahoma A&M and director of the Point Four program. Part 1: Gene Shipley, farm reporter for WIBW news, interviews Dr. Bennett in Stillwater, OK. Dr. Bennett speaks on the post-World War II status of Oklahoma A & M College and its welcoming of military veterans as students. He gives many details about the campus, housing, curriculum, and student population. This interview lasts 8:30. Part 2: Dr. Bennett is heard speaking to the alumni of A & M College about the status of the college. This speech lasts 10:30. Part 3: Dr. and Mrs. Vera C. Bennett's memorial service from Gallagher Hall after their deaths in a plane crash in Iran, December 22, 1951. Eulogies by Sen. Robert S. Kerr; Pastor of First Baptist Church in Tulsa, Dr. J.W. Storer; Governor Johnston Murray; Secretary of Agriculture Charles Brannan; and incoming A&M President Dr. Oliver S. Willham. The speeches last 6:45 minutes. The remainder of the recording is of music and statements at the service, including Faith of our Fathers, the Old Rugged Cross, De Glory Road, and Old Man River.
