Description

Secretary of State Dean Acheson (left) confers with Mrs. Edith Sampson and American United Nations' delegate Warren Austin, at the first meeting of the United Nations' General Assembly. Mrs. Sampson is the first Black American woman given a high U.N. post. She is an alternate delegate for the United States. From: Dean Acheson Papers.
