Description
This is a commercial photograph of the interior of the Milk Grotto (officially known as Magharet Sitti Mariam or the Grotto of the Lady Mary) in Bethlehem. Tradition has it that the Holy Family sought refugee in this grotto during the Slaughter of the Innocents. It is said that Mary was nursing Jesus and a drop of milk fell on the floor turning it white. Part of a group of photographs originally sent by E. Clifton Daniel, Jr. to his mother.
