Battey Mr. Gordon Walter Mr. Cedric Van Pelt (It has been custom on the event of the Inauguration of a president of the United States, for American Radio Relay League, organization of seventy thousand Amateur Radio Operators in our nation, to hold a Governors-President Relay. This is an event in which a congratulatory message from the Governor of each State is originated in each State capital and relayed by Amateur Radio operators to the President in Washington. Washington area stations were alerted to take these incoming messages for the President during period five pm on January 19th to five pm on January 20th. This Group called to deliver to the President the Inauguration congratulatory messages from the Governors of the States.)
Dr. Francis P. Gaines, President, Washington and Lee University, Lexington, Virginia (Senator Robertson of Virginia conveyed to Mr. Connelly the desire of the President Gaines to call on the President in order to invite him to attend national Bicentennial celebration of Washington and Lee University on June 18, 1949. The President is Chairman of the National Commission established by the Congress to help bring about this celebration.
