Since 1957, when the Harry S. Truman Library and Museum opened, volunteers have played an instrumental role in the success of the Presidential Library. Volunteers enable the Library and Museum to provide the best possible service to the public, whether visitors are touring the museum, attending a public program, or researching the archives.
Volunteers serve in different capacities depending on their interests, including:
- Administrative clerk
- Archives assistant (Currently, the Archives department is not accepting new volunteers.)
- Audiovisual assistant
- Hospitality host/hostess
- Mailing Circle
- Museum tour guide
If you like to visit with people, helping as a tour guide or hospitality host/hostess may be a perfect fit. Or if serving "behind the scenes" is more appealing, consider contributing your time as an audiovisual assistant or administrative clerk. If your interests vary, you could join the ranks of our volunteers who lend their talents in more than one way. Shifts are available during the week or the weekend, depending on the position.
As a Truman Library and Museum volunteer, you will receive invitations to special events, complimentary admission to the museum, a discount on museum store purchases, and a subscription to "Whistle-Stop," the quarterly publication of the Truman Library Institute.
To apply for a volunteer position, you must be a U.S. citizen, legal resident alien, or hold a type A1 or A2 diplomatic visa. If you would like to join our volunteer team, please submit your resume and a completed volunteer application form to:
