View at the northwest corner, outside and below the north window of Room G-17, during the renovation of the White House. The installation is to test the strength of the foundation. The horizontal iron beams are supported by six vertical columns, below which is a two foot concrete foundation. Iron struts were erected to the wall at each side. A shift downward of 1/16" to 1/4" was recorded when four hydraulic jacks, each with a pressure of 50 tons, were applied to test the foundation.
