Last meeting of the Potsdam Conference

Last meeting of the Potsdam Conference in Potsdam, Germany. President Harry S. Truman is on the right, opposite the United States flag on the table. Seated to the right of President Truman are Secretary of State James Byrnes, Admiral William Leahy, and Soviet Ambassador to the United States Andrei Gromyko. Soviet Prime Minister Josef Stalin is at the top, in the white uniform. Seated on the left of Stalin is Soviet Foreign Minister Vyacheslav Molotov. British Prime Minister Clement Attlee is seated in the left corner, opposite the British flag on the table.

Potsdam Conference Session

A session of the Potsdam Conference takes place at Cecilienhof. Soviet President Joseph Stalin is seated near the center, wearing white. Seated around the table, counter-clockwise from Stalin are: unidentified Soviet official; Andre Gromyko, Admiral William Leahy, Secretary of State James Byrnes, and President Harry S. Truman. Prime Minister Clement Attlee is in the lower right corner, directly opposite the British flag. Seated on Stalin's left is Vyacheslav Molotov. Others are unidentified.

Conference table at the Potsdam Conference

Davies, President Truman, and Winston Churchill. Photos 72-4673 and 67-7587 show Winston Churchill signing this photo. This is one of four original prints in existence, photographed in color by a United States Army Signal Corps photographer using a hand-held camera. The original autographed photograph, measuring 20x24, is in the Museum collection.

W. Averell Harriman Standing With Nikita Khrushchev During 1959 Trip to the Soviet Union

Exterior view which includes W. Averell Harriman on the right and Nikita Khrushchev standing next to him in hat. It is believed that the picture was taken at the government's guest dacha Ogarevo located west of Moscow, Russia. They may be standing by the Moskva River. Others in the photograph from the left include perhaps Andrei Gromyko with hat and Frol Kozlov. Charles W. Thayer accompanied Harriman as a guide and confidant on the trip which took place May 12 - June 26, 1959. Harriman went as a special foreign correspondent for the North American Newspaper Alliance (NANA).

Thayer accompanied Harriman as a guide and confidant on the trip which took place May 12 - June 26, 1959.
