President Truman's Remarks to the Winner of the Teacher of the Year Award

President Harry S. Truman's remarks to the winner of the Teacher of the Year Award. The President spoke at 11:40 a.m. in the Rose Garden at the White House. The recipient of the award was Mrs. Geraldine Jones, a first grade teacher at Hope School in Santa Barbara, CA. The United States Office of Education, in cooperation with McCall's magazine, selected Mrs. Jones from nominees submitted by state departments of education.

President Harry S. Truman's remarks to a group of exchange teachers from Great Britain, France, and Canada. The President spoke at 12:05 p.m. in the Rose Garden at the White House. His opening words referred to Oscar R. Ewing, Federal Security Administrator. The teachers were in the United States under the provisions of the United States Information and Educational Exchange Act of 1948.

Harry S. Truman's First Grade Class

The first grade class of children at the Noland School (Southside School), are standing on the steps on the school. Teacher Miss Myra Ewing is standing at the back on the left.
