Lieutenant Commander Lewis Parks Receives Recognition

Lieutenant Commander Lewis Parks (right), receives a recognition ribbon from an unidentified United States Navy officer on board a submarine, probably the Pompano. This is possibly either his first Navy Cross or the Gold Star, both of which he was awarded for service aboard the Pompano. Parks was the captain of the Pompano from 1939 until 1942 when he was detached and assigned to the staff of Commander Submarines, U.S. Atlantic Fleet. Submarine Sailors Enjoy Dessert

A group of submarine sailors enjoy dessert after their noon meal. Each table seats six men and are folded out of the way when not in use providing the crew a "recreation room" onboard the submarine.
