First American World War One prisoner to escape from Germany, Private Frank Savicki

American doughboy, first prisoner to escape from Germany, Private Frank Savicki of Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, was captured at Chateau Thierry. Three months later he made his escape by locking the guard house door upon his jailer and fleeing to Switzerland by night.
