The Library of Congress, located on Capitol Hill, adjacent to the Supreme Court building. Created originally to provide specialized reference service for the members of Congress, the institution, because of its vast resources, has developed into the National Library of the United States.
The National Capitol. Situated on the crest of a hill where the North-South and East-West axes of the city cross. It is the seat of Congress of the United States. The Senate occupies the North wing and the House of Representatives occupies the South wing.
Originally designed as the headquarters for the Department of the Army, the building has been occupied by the United States Department of State since 1947.
