Truman inspects the 137th Infantry Regiment

At an airfield near Brussels, Belgium President Harry S. Truman, en route to the Potsdam Conference in Germany, speaks to a member of the 137th Regiment of the 35th Division. The 35th Division was designated as honor guard because it was the President's outfit in World War I. The soldier speaking to the President is Staff Sergeant Ernie Atkin of Madisonvale, Tennessee. President Truman takes the Presidential salute in Berlin

President Harry S. Truman takes the Presidential salute during the playing of the national anthem during the flag raising in Berlin. The "Flag of Liberation" used during the ceremony flew over the Capitol in Washington on December 7, 1941. It was raised in Rome on the day of its liberation on the July 4, 1944.
