Presidential inaugurations

An exhibit case at the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum in Independence, Missouri, features artifacts related to President Truman's Inaugural ceremonies in 1949. On display are a Battery D armband, a menu from a Battery D breakfast, cartoons, tickets, a badge from the gala, an inaugural medal, an invitation, a committee badge, a license plate, a vehicle pass, a radio and TV pass, an election dinner program, and other items.

Chester Lauck and Norris Goff who played Columbus Edwards "Lum Eddards" and Abner Peabody in the radio show "Lum and Abner." Lauck and Goff performed a comedy routine during the Inaugural Gala held January 19, 1949.

Robert M. Walker and Joe Yasbeck, Jr. work on a papier-mache figure that became a hammer-swinging Uncle Sam on a railroad organization's Inaugural Parade float.

Actor Phil Harris served as a Master of Ceremony and performed with Actress Alice Faye at the Inaugural Gala held January 19, 1949.
