Political Cartoon, "St. Louis Visitor"

This is a photograph of a political cartoon by Daniel Fitzpatrick, originally published in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on October 11, 1950. The cartoon depicts the presidential airplane "The Independence" on the tarmac of an airport. Attached to its side is a sign reading "Hennings for Senator." Below the plane is the text, "St. Louis Visitor." The Hennings referred to is Congressman (later Senator) Thomas C. Hennings, Jr.

President Truman Leaves Washington for a Caribbean Vacation

President Harry S. Truman left Washington by air today for a Caribbean vacation. Mr. Truman, en route to Key West, Florida, on the first lap of a 2-week trip which includes inspection of the nation's Caribbean outposts, took off from Washington National Airport in the Presidential airplane "Sacred Cow." The Independence Has Landed

President Harry S. Truman's airplane, The Independence, has landed in Key West, Florida, and military personnel are assembled. A motorcade is waiting to take him to the Little White House.
