President Harry S. Truman's address at the dedication of a square in memory of Samuel Gompers. The President spoke at 11:45 a.m. from a platform erected in Gompers' Square at Tenth Street and Massachusetts Avenue NW., in Washington, DC. In his opening words he referred to Secretary of the Interior Oscar L. Chapman, who served as master of ceremonies, and to Secretary of Labor Maurice J. Tobin. In the course of his remarks the President referred to William Green, president of the American Federation of Labor. The address was broadcast.
