Hospital cribs at Buchenwald concentration camp

Prisoners in the "hospital" cribs at Buchenwald concentration camp. This photo is one of a group of photographs taken shortly after the liberation of the infamous camp near Weimar, Germany. The photographs were taken by a rehabilitation officer of the U.S. Army Chief Surgeon's office when he arrived at the camp three days after Weimar was taken by the U.S. Third Army. Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Allied Commander, watches while former occupants of a German concentration camp at Gotha demonstrate how they were tortured by the Nazis operating the camp.
