Boxing Match on Ship Zeppelin

Boxing match aboard U.S.S. Zeppelin. On left is Tom Murphy, Amateur Lightweight Champion of the World. The officers of the 129th Field Artillery (including Harry Truman) came home from World War I on the Zeppelin. From an album of Lorain H. Cunningham, who served in the 129th Field Artillery during World War I and was a friend of Harry S. Truman.

Standing in a boxing ring, Randall Jessee (left) and Dr. Vernon Ames (right), President of the Kansas City Golden Gloves Association, hold a plaque dedicating the 1973 Tournament of Champions to the memory of former President Harry S. Truman. Mr. Truman served as Honorary Co-chairman of the Golden Gloves boxing tournaments for over 30 years.
