Beaches

Charles Thayer in his typewritten account of the trip states: "From there we went to the 'lake', an artificial body of water much boasted about by officials, which is about waist deep with muddy water. The sandy shoreline was thick with Sunday bathers and the water itself hardly less populated." Charles W. Thayer accompanied Harriman as a guide and confidant on the trip which took place May 12 - June 26, 1959.

Hurricane damage to the docks and other structures along the beach at the Key West Naval Air Station. On September 20-21, 1948, a hurricane struck Key West, Florida, damaging several of the buildings at the Naval Air Station and killing three people in the area.
