President Truman and Aviator Jacqueline Cochran

President Harry S. Truman is shown awarding the famed woman flier Jacqueline Cochran the Harmon International Trophy for "the most outstanding international achievements in the arts and science of aeronautics for the preceding year." Discussing yesterday's assassination attempt, the President told Ms. Cochran "they (Puerto Rico) have had the best treatment they ever had in their history. They have a free government and their own governor."
