President Truman's Special Message to the Congress on the Steel Strike

President Harry S. Truman gives a special message to a joint session of Congress on the steel strike. The President spoke at 12:30 p.m. Shortly after the President's appearance before the joint session of the Congress, the Senate rejected a proposal conforming to his recommendations, 47 to 32. Two other seizure proposals were also rejected. The Senate then voted, 49 to 30, to request the President to make use of the provisions of the Taft-Hartley Act. In two parts.
