World War I

Students will use computer technology to analyze Internet websites containing primary and secondary sources that contain a variety of documents related to U.S. intervention in Russia from 1918-20.

Students will receive three or four letters written by Truman to Bess Wallace and analyze them

Students will conduct research about the Florida Panhandle region and its veterans during World War I

Students will read and analyze an excerpt from Woodrow Wilson's Fourteen Points speech, delivered to Congress in January 1918. The classroom activity is both an individual and a cooperative learning activity.

The students will use American World War I propaganda posters to evaluate how individual citizens were encouraged to support the war effort. Students will work both individually and cooperatively during the course of this lesson.

A class debate: To what extent was the leadership responsible for the carnage of the First World War?

Students will read correspondence from Truman about desegregating the military as well as primary document background material about his experiences with minority groups during WWI. They will work in groups to create a mini-presentation.

Students will read primary documents from suffrage workers and female WWI contributors to discover their feelings toward not being allowed to vote.

Students will compare an aerial photograph from WWI to a current Google.com satellite map and a street map of the current area.
