To help students understand life on the Missouri/Kansas border during the "Bleeding Kansas" time period.

Students will use George Caleb Bingham's Order No. 11 painting to analyze varying viewpoints during the "Bleeding Kansas" conflict.

The purpose of this activity is to better acquaint the student with the problems faced by Kansas settlers. Decisions made by our countries leaders have to be well thought out or they may come back to haunt us.

To help students understand the different points of views from the Missouri Bushwhackers and the Kansas Jayhawkers using the Massacre at Osceola, the jail collapse in Kansas City, and the Raid on Lawrence.

In this lesson students will work in teams to create a time line of raids during the Border War before watching the movie Ride with the Devil to learn information about the Missouri-Kansas Border War.

To show students that the Kansas-Nebraska Act and the effects of John Brown's raid and other raids along the border.

Students analyze a collection of political cartoons and come up with questions find out more about the situations the cartoons depict

Primary source discovery and analysis

Students, working in teams, will analyze the rapid rise in automobiles and the growing need for a stable road system in the United States/Missouri

Students analyze a biographical comic book summarizing President Harry S. Truman's life prepared by the Democratic Party.
