This is lecture activity using power discussing the importance of and impact of WWI specifically from the point of view of Harry S. Truman. The lecture follows the decision of the 33 year old veteran from the farm to France leaving his mom and sister.
In this activity, students will use primary source posters and other documents from the World War I era to learn about the ways in which the United States mobilized for war.
Students will learn the reasons for the US entering WWI, as well as being exposed to WWI propaganda which can be related to wartime propaganda in general.
Students will research through the use of primary source documents the lives of different segments of societies in WWI, and create a fictional narrative based on this study, to illustrate their understanding of the material.
Students will read letters written by Capt. Harry S. Truman from France to his fiancée Bess Wallace and his cousins Mary Ethel and Nellie Noland and compare them to accounts of the experiences of his division (35th) during WWI.
After viewing the MovieMaker presentation titled, "WWI Cemeteries" students will listen to "Will Ye Go to Flanders" by Jane Tabor and complete Song Analysis with teacher.
