President Harry S. Truman's St. Patrick's Day address in New York, NY. The President spoke at 10:30 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Hotel Astor. He was introduced by John A. Coleman, president of the Society of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick in the City of New York and chairman of the dinner. The address was carried on a nationwide radio broadcast. After the president's speech comes the music of Henry Russell and his Orchestra, playing Jerome Kern's "Yesterday."

The President spoke at 9:32 p.m. in the presidential Room of the Statler Hotel in Washington, D.C. In his opening words he referred to Francis Biddle, former Attorney General of the United States, and national chairman of the Americans for Democratic Action. Later he referred to, among others, Henry A. Wallace, candidate for President in 1948 on the Progressive Party ticket, Robert A. Taft, Senator from Ohio, Thomas E. Dewey, Governor of New York, General of the Army Dwight D.
