Description

President Harry S. Truman's recorded message to the people of the Philippines upon the occasion of their independence. The President's words were the climax of a special program by the Office of International Information and Cultural Affairs of the Department of State saluting the granting of independence to the Republic of the Philippines by the United States. The program was broadcast from 7:05 to 8 p.m. on July 3 and rebroadcast to the Philippines the following morning. The President's message was heard in 25 countries of South America and Europe as well as in the Philippines, Netherlands East Indies, Japan, China, and India. The message was prerecorded on June 28.
