Description

President Harry S. Truman's address at the Sesquicentennial Convocation at West Point. The President spoke at 3:30 p.m. in the Field House at the academy. In his opening words he referred to Maj. Gen. Frederick A. Irving, Superintendent of the United States Military Academy, General of the Army Omar N. Bradley, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Dr. Karl T. Compton, Chairman of the Corporation of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Frank Pace, Jr., Secretary of the Army, Dan A. Kimball, Secretary of the Navy, and Thomas K. Finletter, Secretary of the Air force. During his remarks the President referred to Vice President Alben W. Barkley, former Senator from Kentucky, Vice Adm. Charles Turner Joy, senior United Nations delegate at the Korean armistice negotiations, and Gen. Mark Clark, Commander in Chief for the far East.

Also includes President Truman's awarding of the Distinguished Service Medal (Second Oak Leaf Cluster) to General Matthew Ridgway and reading the citation. In two parts.
