"Hail to the Legion"

Recording Date(s)
Accession Number
SR2014-32
Description

Recording is in two parts. Part 1 is essentially verbal letter from Theron P. Weaver, the writer of "Hail to the Legion" arguing for the adoption of his composition to become the official song of the American Legion. It gives some of the background of how and why it was written, its copyright status, and the difficulties the writer has had with getting it approved as the official song. Part 2 is a recording of "Hail to the Legion," a march that begins as an instrumental but includes a sung verse by an unidentified man. It contains a musical reference to the song, "Back Home Again in Indiana."
