Description

After winning the 1948 presidential election, President Harry S. Truman returned to Washington and gave this speech. The President spoke at noon from the North Portico of the White House. He was greeted and introduced by President of the Board of District Commissioners, John Russell Young. The Vice President-Elect, Alben Barkley, also makes remarks.
