President Harry S. Truman with Sgt. William G. Harrell of Rio Grande City, TX, during the Medal of Honor ceremony on the South Lawn of the White House. Harrell received the decoration for gallantry in killing at least five Japanese while defending his command post despite critical injuries to both hands and grenade injuries to his leg and side.
