Carrying the first commercial satellite payload in the history of the STS program, and the first four-man crew in a single launch in the history of space flight, space shuttle Columbia lifts away from Launch Pad 39A on schedule at 7:19 A.M., beginning STS-5, the first operational flight for the Shuttle system.
