President Harry S. Truman holding up two baseballs, one in each hand, preparatory to throwing out the first ball at the opening game of the baseball season, at Griffith Stadium in Washington, D.C. Standing in the presidential box, from left to right, are: Admiral Robert Dennison, Margaret Truman, First Lady Bess W. Truman, President Truman, General Robert Landry, Philadelphia Athletics Manager Connie Mack, Washington Senators owner Clark Griffith (partly obscured), Vice-President Alben Barkley, and Washington Senators Manager Bucky Harris. Seated behind President Truman is Press Secretary Charles Ross (partly obscured). All others are unidentified.
