President Harry S. Truman (left, in back seat), Vice President-elect Alben W. Barkley (right, in back seat), First Lady Bess W. Truman (left, in front seat), and Margaret Truman (right, in front seat) sitting in an open car in the Washington, D.C. train station. Democratic National Committee Chairman J. Howard McGrath is in the middle in the back seat. Truman and Barkley had just returned to Washington after their victory in the 1948 election.
