Description
This is a photograph of a political cartoon by Len. The cartoon depicts copies of Weber's Independent Newspaper riding on a car labeled the "TRUMAN BANDWAGON" under a sign "TRUMAN for PRESIDENT." The text at the bottom of the cartoon reads, "In March, 1948, cagey Illinois politicians were agog when a 10X40 foot billboard touting Truman for president was hoisted above representative Charles H. Weber's Chicago gas station. In June faint-hearted citizens and Democratic workers were revived by a shot in the voting arm when more than 40,000 copies of Weber's Independent Newspapers carrying the above cartoon were distributed by mail."
