Description

Suémi Matsushige, wearing an air raid helmet, attempts to clear some of the rubble in her barbershop home around 2 p.m. on the day of the atomic bombing, about 1.6 mi from the hypocenter, Midori-cho, Hiroshima, Japan. Her journalist husband is the photographer and was the only person to capture images of the destruction on the day of the bombing.
