E. Clifton Daniel, Jr. stands behind the podium and gives a speech after receiving an honorary Doctor of Letters from the University of North Carolina. Sitting behind the podium, leaning down with a stack of papers is UNC Chancellor J. Carlyle Sitterson. The honor was bestowed during the 1970 Commencement ceremony. All others are unidentified.
