President Harry S. Truman (foreground, left) presents the Distinguished Service Medal (3rd Oak Leaf Cluster) to General Carl Spaatz (foreground, center), United States Air Force, for exceptionally notorious and distinguished service as Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force. Standing from left to right behind the President and General Spaatz are: General Robert Landry, unidentified military officer, Secretary of the Navy John L. Sullivan, Mrs. Spaatz and family, Secretary of Air Force Stuart Symington, Admiral William D. Leahy, General Hoyt S. Vandenberg, and General Omar N. Bradley. All others are unidentified.
