Mag Barkley Noel (Mrs. James C. Noel) was a friend and neighbor of Bess W. Truman and a member of her bridge club in Independence, Missouri.
This collection is comprised of copies of the contents of a scrapbook compiled by Mrs. Mag Barkley Noel. It includes copies of newspaper clippings, other printed materials, photographs, correspondence, and invitations mostly pertaining to Mrs. Noel’s membership in Bess Truman’s bridge club in Independence, Missouri. The members of the bridge club visited Mrs. Truman in Washington in 1946 and attended a concert by Margaret Truman in Oklahoma City in 1947. Mrs. Noel’s scrapbook is largely devoted to these activities.
The collection includes copies of letters from Bess, Harry, and Margaret Truman, and copies of photographs of the Trumans and members of the bridge club.
This collection was originally opened for research as part of the Miscellaneous Historical Documents collection (MHDC 542).
More information about Mrs. Truman’s bridge club can be found in the papers of Mary Shaw Branton, Linda King, Thelma Pallette Siebel, and Reathel Odum.
