MEMORANDUM OF TELEPHONE CONVERSATION
Participants: Mr. Lovett Mr. Acheson
Mr. Lovett called to let the Secretary know that they had gotten in touch with Senator Hunt. They have been authorized to tell the staff of the Committee that the Senator can be recorded as voting against the further cuts.

Later, Senator McFarland telephoned the Secretary to let him know that he had heard about the 6-6 tie and that Senator Hunt's vote against the amendment would be important. Mr. Acheson told him of Mr. Lovett's call and said that he would have Mr. Lovett give the Senator a call immediately.

Mr. Acheson called Mr. Lovett and told him of the Senator's call. Mr. Lovett said he would have Admiral Houser, who had talked with Senator Hunt, call Senator McFarland immediately.
