DEPARTMENT OF STATE OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY
May 8, 1952
MEMORANDUM
To: Mr. Sandifer From: L. D. Battle
With regard to our telephone conversation, I am attaching the material which Mrs. Roosevelt left with the Secretary yesterday on the International Rescue Committee and its need for funds. As I told you, she asked the Secretary, in addition to the points made in the memorandum, whether the Department could help in any way by taking some people off the Committee's hands. She also asked whether there was anything we could do with other Foundations to help the Committee obtain funds.
In view of what you told me about the background of her call, I wonder if you would look over this material and see whether we should do anything further with Mrs. Roosevelt in the way of follow-up. As I told you, Mr. George Warren has, I understand, seen several people from this Committee who approached the Department in the hope of getting a grant in aid. Perhaps you will want to discuss Mrs. Roosevelt's points with him.
