COPIES TO: S S/S S/S-PR ARA OSA
His Excellency Senor Dr. Antonio Martin Araujo, newly appointed Ambassador of Venezuela, called on me today to present copies of his credentials and to request an appointment with the President.
After the usual exchange of courtesies, the Ambassador expressed his pleasure at being appointed to such an important post, this being his first diplomatic mission. The Ambassador further stated that the Venezuelan Government and people were very much pleased with the appointment of Ambassador Armour, whose long experience and knowledge of the problems in Venezuela made him an excellent choice for the position.
I told the Ambassador that I was very much pleased to welcome him to Washington and assured him of my support and that of the officers of the Department.
No matters of a political nature were discussed.
