The Harry S. Truman Library and its parent agency, the National Archives and Records Service (NARS) were part of the General Services Administration (GSA) until 1985, when NARS became an independent agency, the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). The Public Buildings Service of the GSA was involved in the acquisition of land for the expansion of the Truman Library.
This collection of the Records of the General Services Administration (Record Group 269) consists of records related to the acquisition of land by the government in order to expand the grounds of the Harry S. Truman Library.
Included is correspondence between the government and landowners in the vicinity of the Library; contracts and other legal documents concerning the purchase of their property by the government; and related memoranda, maps, and other items. Most of this material dates from the 1969-1979 period. Also included in the collection are records pertaining to the general management of the Library building and grounds.
Related collections at the Truman Library include the Records of the National Archives and Records Administration (Record Group 64).
