Description
“MEDICARE 30TH ANNIVERSARY” July 30, 1995. Ceremony at the Harry S Truman Library on the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Medicare Bill at the Truman Library by President Lyndon Johnson. The ceremony consisted of speakers in the auditorium of the Library, and a television hookup with several other cities in which the speakers could take questions from both the TV audience and the live audience. Speakers included: Rep. David E. Bonior, Dem-Mich.; Rep. Peter Deutsch, Dem.-Fl.; Rep. Sherrod Brown, Dem-Ohio; Rep. Martin Frost, Dem.-Texas; Rep. Richard Gephardt, Dem.-Mo; Rep. Sam M. Gibbons, Dem.-Fl.; Luci Baines Johnson daughter of the late President Johnson; Rep. Joseph Kennedy, Dem.-Mass.; Rep. Patrick Kennedy, Dem.-Rhode Island; Rep. Karen McCarthy, Dem.- MO; Rep. Ronald Lee Wyden, Dem.-Oregon; Donna Shalala, Secretary of Health and Human Services. This videotape was purchased by Barkley and Evergreen for the Truman Library from C-Span Viewer Services.
