Description
Biography of John L. Lewis, last part. Narration by Mike Wallace of the “Biography” television series. Describes the organization of the Miners Union under the National Recovery Act and the history of the AFL union in the 1930’s. It covers the establishment of the CIO, including the strikes against General Motors and Republic Steel. Lewis was succeeded at the CIO in 1940 by Phillip Murray, but continued to lead the Miners Union. End of film wavy. This was received from Doug Thurman at the National Archives in May, 2002. It was found at NARA during the renovation. ¾-inch videotape
