Shot List
Reel 1
0:00 | Mr. Truman speaks, with occasional direction from Ben Gradus. Harry S. Truman discusses the need for trials following German atrocities in World War II. He speaks of the terrible stain on the German people, the horror of the atrocities. “Future generations needed to understand what it really meant.” Mr. Truman mentions piled up bodies, and starving children.
1:21 | Mr. Gradus asks Mr. Truman to tell what the leaders should get. Mr. Truman replies that the leaders should get punishment equal to the atrocities, but not without a trial. They should not be rounded up and shot, like Stalin wanted to do. Eventually we got the trials, but we had a hard time getting them. This was probably used in preparation for MP80-3, “Execution Without Trial.”
